Security¶
Firstly, please ensure that any self-administered machines (e.g. workstations, laptops or servers) which you use to connect to UIS services are fully up to date with respect to operating system updates, antivirus and antispyware software. For more information (including links to free antivirus software) please visit the University Information Service’s IT Support page.
Your Password¶
The RFS uses the UIS Password in common with other central UIS services such as Raven and Desktop Services. Visit this page for more information.
Tip
If the UIS Password does not appear to work, please visit the UIS Password Management page and change your password. This will propagate your UIS Password to our systems (it is permissible to change the password to itself provided the strength indicator shows GREEN).
Planned Maintenance¶
Any planned maintenance will be advertised in advance. Every reasonable effort will be made to maintain uninterrupted service otherwise.
Directory Permissions¶
Your project data storage directory on RFS will have ACLs set such that only you and the other nominated members of your group will be able to access it. Click here for more information.
Email¶
The RFS support team will use email to advise the user base of impending events such as planned maintenance periods, or emergencies affecting service. This is done using the University list server and by default all users are added to the list uis-rfs-users@lists.cam.ac.uk. This is a moderated list and although you may opt out of this if you wish, we would prefer you did not.
